Heavy rain in Kolkata, West Bengal and Odisha around Feb 26; hailstorm likely in parts

At present, a confluence zone has formed over the central parts of the country, this zone is likely to extend further towards the eastern parts of the country i.e. towards North Bengal, which will extend up to Vidarbha region in Maharashtra.

This system will gradually move towards eastwards. The trough in westerly will be associated towards later parts, which will strengthen this weather system.

In the wake of these weather systems, light rain and thundershower activities are expected in few parts of West Bengal and Odisha. These weathers activities will intensify tomorrow onwards, and the peak activities are likely on February 26 and 27.

During that time, we expect moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers with strong gusty winds and hailstorm to lash many parts of West Bengal and Odisha.

Talking about the capital city, Kolkata will also observe few moderate to heavy rain showers.

The main affected areas will be the districts of Birbhum, Murshidabad, Bankura, Burdwan, Midnapore Howrah, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack and Keonjhargarh.

In fact, between February 26 and 27, we expect significant drop in day temperatures over most places of these states.

Further, from February 28, the weather over West Bengal and Odisha will starts clearing up and once again dry day conditions will persist over these states.

Moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers with strong gusty winds and isolated hailstorm will occur over Angul, Balangir, Baleshwar, Bargarh, Baudh, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Debagarh, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajapur, Jharsuguda, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Kendrapara, Kendujhar, Khordha, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj, Nabarangpur, Nayagarh, Nuapada, Puri, Rayagada, Sambalpur, Subarnapur, Sundargarh, Alipurduar, Bankura, Barddhaman, Birbhum, Dakshin Dinajpur, Darjeeling, Haora, Hugli, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Koch Bihar, Kolkata, Malda, Murshidabad, Nadia, North Twenty Four Parganas, Paschim Medinipur, Purba Medinipur, Puruliya, South Twenty Four Parganas and Uttar Dinajpur districts of West Bengal and Odisha between 25 Feb to 27 Feb 2019.
