Rain over the past weekend has thrown life out of gear in Hyderabad. Due to the pre-monsoon activity, the city received 61.4 mm of rain in past 24 hours, which surpassed the record of the all-time highest rainfall in Hyderabad.
Hyderabad boasts an all-time high record of rainfall in a span of 24 hours, which was 60.7 mm so far. The record for the highest rainfall in a span of 24 hours in last ten years stood at 41.4 mm which has also been surpassed by the recent spell of rain.
A number of weather systems have caused this heavy rain in Hyderabad in the last 24 hours. "Extensive pre-monsoon activity over Peninsular India, cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Maharashtra and the wind discontinuity over parts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have caused the heavy rain in Hyderabad,” explains G.P. Sharma, chief meteorologist, Skymet Weather Services.
Rain in last three days caused extensive damage to roads by waterlogging and local traffic was disrupted in the city. Heavy rains also caused widespread damage to mango, cotton and paddy crop in Hyderabad and other parts of Telangana.
