The state of Gujarat had been heading towards drought conditions, wherein the state has been seeing deficiency above 50 percent. However, the good news for Gujarat is that the state has received good rains in the last couple of days. There were good rains wherein the day before Okha recorded 127 mm of rains, Porbandar saw 128 mm of rainfall, Veraval recorded 96 mm, and Kandla saw 94 mm.
With these rains, the rainfall deficiency has reduced to quite an extent. Talking about Saurashtra and Kutch at -53 percent deficiency has reduced to -39 percent wherein Gujarat where the deficiency was at -47 percent and has come down to -44 percent.
Now, rains will see a reduction and heavy rains for some time will take a backseat. However, rains may once again see a comeback.
The next low pressure that is expected to form around September 5, and will move inside around September 6. Thus, another spell over Gujarat is expected around September 8 and 9. Those rains will target the northern parts of Gujarat where it has not rained much this time. Even the capital city of Gandhinagar and adjoining Ahmedabad may see some rains during the same time.
