Flood in Uttar Pradesh

Monsoon this year made a late onset over Uttar Pradesh, it made its appearance over the state in the second week of June. So, the initial effect of Monsoon was almost dry, and the state was rain deficient.

Thereafter gradually rains picked up pace and at present Monsoon is in a very good condition over Uttar Pradesh. In fact, at present East Uttar Pradesh is 14% rain deficient against the normal and West Uttar Pradesh is deficient by 6%.

During the last 24 hours, as heavy to very heavy rains were observed over Uttar Prdaesh, East Uttar Pradesh was rain surplus by 43% against its day normal and West Uttar Pradesh by 266%.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Bareilly recorded 206 mm of rain, followed by Moradabad 133 mm, Najibabad 73 mm and Lucknow 61 mm.

Presently as the Monsoon trough is close to the foothills over West Uttar Pradesh and is moving across East Uttar Pradesh towards Bay of Bengal. Active to vigorous Monsoon conditions are likely to continue over Uttar Pradesh. We expect these rainfall activities to enhance further seasonal cumulative rainfall.

Furthermore, another low-pressure is likely to form over Northwest Bay of Bengal which will move northwestwards. Therefore, we expect rains to increase over East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas.

Flood like situation is also expected in few districts of Uttar Pradesh, as rain intensity will mostly be moderate to heavy over most of the places.
