In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Siliguri recorded extremely heavy three digit rain to the tune of 150 mm followed by Jalpaiguri at 96 mm, North Lakhimpur at 84.8 mm, Cooch Behar 79 mm, Mangan 80.7 mm, Pasighat 66.3 mm, Itanagar 42.7 mm and Dhubri 21 mm of rains.
As per Skymet Weather, a fresh weather system has formed in the Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha and West Bengal coast. This system has also pulled the axis of Monsoon trough below which was earlier running across the foothills of Himalayas.
Now, the axis of Monsoon trough is passing through the northeastern states. Therefore, Sikkim, Sub Himalayan West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh would continue to record heavy rains.
In view of these rains, there will be no relief from the ongoing flood situations in Assam and Meghalaya. The tourists are advised to avoid these regions as rains will not take a halt in the coming time soon.
