Widespread heavy to moderate rainfall continued to lash most parts of Kerala on account of the pre-monsoon activity. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, combination of two weather systems has been causing rain in the coastal state for the last 48 hours.
The two systems include a cyclonic circulation prevailing over Comorin area adjoining extreme parts of southern peninsular and Sri Lanka, and wind discontinuity along the Kerala and Karnataka coast.
Let us have a look at the rainfall figures in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday:
As per the latest forecast by Skymet, the cyclonic circulation will now move further westwards over Lakshadweep region and south Arabian Sea, leading to a significant drop in rain intensity over the state.
However, light to moderate rain will continue for next 24 hours on account of the pre-monsoon activity, thereafter easing out a little bit.
In the wake of the rain activity, both maximum and minimum temperatures have plunged by around two degrees across the region. But as the rain reduces, day and night temperatures will again crawl back to mid-30s and mid-20s, respectively.
As Kerala entered the pre-monsoon season, good amounts of rain have been witnessed in the state. Last week, it recorded 67 mm of rain against the normal of 25 mm. We expect, a similar trend this week as well.
