From last two to three days, heavy rain and snow have been lashing the hilly states of North India. These rains are said to have been occurred due to a series of active Western Disturbances affecting the Western Himalayan region.
As per Skymet Weather, one Western Disturbance is over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir, while another Western Disturbance is likely to approach and affect the Western Himalayas.
In the wake of these back to back weather systems, hilly states including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand are reeling under rainy and snowy weather conditions.
In fact, in the last 24 hours also torrential rain and snow in higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir were observed. These torrential rains and snow have also resulted in both the maximum and minimum temperatures to plummet and remain a few degrees below the normal.

Skymet Weather further iterates that these series of rain and moderate snowfall with heavy at the higher reaches are likely to continue in the hills of North India until March 11. Rains are expected to continue embracing Vaishno Devi for another two to three days as well. Thereafter, the weather is likely to clear up once again.
These recent good rain and snow spell could also increase the chances of avalanches on the higher reaches. The possibility of major highway blockages cannot be ruled out as well.
