The hills of North India i.e. Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been experiencing light to moderate rain and snow for the last 24 hours.
According to the precipitation data available with Skymet, Qazigund recorded 22 mm of rain in the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday, followed by Shimla 20 mm, Gulmarg 19 mm, Sundernagar 12 mm, Dharamshala 9 mm, Tehri 8 mm and Mandi 7 mm.
Fresh WD approaching
At present, a Western Disturbance is seen over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir, with Its induced cyclonic circulation present over the western parts of Rajasthan.
Thus, we can say that today, in the wake of the fresh Western Disturbance, rain and snow will commence over most parts of Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. As the system slowly moves eastwards, parts of Uttarakhand will also start receiving some precipitation.
On March 14, the intensity and spread of rain and snow will increase. In fact, we expect moderate to heavy precipitation in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. During this period, there are chances of cloudburst and landslides in parts of Uttarakhand.
By March 15, the weather systems will move away eastwards, and the weather in the hills of North India will start clearing up. By March 16, dry weather will prevail over the Western Himalayas.
Weather Alert: Rain and snowfall with gusty winds associated with hailstorm and heavy falls will occur over Bilaspur, Chamba, Hamirpur, Kangra, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahul & Spiti, Mandi, Shimla, Sirmaur, Solan, Una, Anantnag, Badgam, Bandipore, Baramula, Doda, Ganderbal, Jammu, Kargil, Kathua, Kishtwar, Kulgam, Kupwara, Leh(Ladakh), Pulwama, Punch, Rajouri, Ramban, Reasi, Samba, Shupiyan, Srinagar, Udhampur, Almora, Bageshwar, Chamoli, Champawat, Dehradun, Garhwal, Hardwar, Nainital, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag, Tehri Garhwal and Uttarkashi districts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand from March 13 to 15.
