Heavy rain and snow lashes Jammu and Kashmir, more in offing

The wait for heavy rain and snow has finally come to an end in Jammu and Kashmir. In fact, the night long spell of rain and snow has ended the prolonged dry spell over the hilly state.

According to Skymet Weather, fairly widespread moderate to heavy rain and snow has been witnessed across the valley. State capital of Srinagar, which has not witnessed any significant amount of snow so far, was also covered under the while blanket.

In wake of this, several arterial roads such as Srinagar-Leh, Bandipora-Gurez and the Mughal road that connects the valley with Rajouri in Jammu were forced to shut down.

Moreover, good amount of rain and snow will continue over the state on Wednesday as well.

The ongoing activity can be attributed to the Western Disturbance that presently moving across Jammu and Kashmir. This system can be touted as the first active Disturbance of the season, which has led to fairly widespread activity.

Now as the system moves away from region after the next 24 hours, rains and snow activity will reduce on Thursday but isolated activity will continue.

Thereafter, another active Western Disturbance is approaching Jammu and Kashmir which will start affecting the state by January 6.

Weathermen predict that this system will be even more stronger than the present one. With this, rain and snow will pick up pace again from Friday and widespread heavy precipitation is likely over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
