Good amounts of rain in Delhi, already predicted by Skymet, not only spoiled as Arvind Kejriwal claims, ‘the ever so needed Dharna against the Home Ministry’ in Delhi forcing the Chief Minister to change plans and the venue of protest last minute, but also led to major delays, traffic jams and waterlogging in many areas. Our forecasts suggest there could no relief from this weather in Delhi and North India for the next 24 to 48 hours.
“More bad is on the way for the ‘Aam Aadmi’ as rain in Delhi will not subside but will only increase tomorrow. Thundershowers could be intense in parts of Haryana too accompanied by hail which could further accentuate the winter chill”, said a senior meteorologist at Skymet Weather.
“This spell of rain in Delhi, lasting for three days, i.e. 21st to the 23rd of January, could easily give rain of up to 10 mm or even more”, he added.
Further, rainfall will be widespread in many other of India for the next two to three days. West and central Uttar Pradesh could also receive good amounts of rain tomorrow whereas parts of Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat will continue to receive rain with lighter intensity.
South coastal Maharashtra recorded light rain yesterday (Mumbai - traces of rain) and will continue to witness rainy weather with sporadic showers till Thursday. Rain will reach up to interiors of Maharashtra (Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada) on Thursday.
“It is quite uncommon for Mumbai to receive any rain in the winter. This is definitely one rare incident. Further chances of rain could allow even Mumbaikairs to enjoy the wintery chill”, said our meteorologist.
This week rain activity will continue in Tamil Nadu as well. Yesterday, we had forecast chances of rain in coastal Tamil Nadu and as predicted Chennai did receive 0.1 mm of rain. Next two days could be mainly dry however another spell of rain in Tamil Nadu could be break-in on the 24th of January, in places like Pamban, Nagapattinam, Karaikal, Kanyakumari and Cuddalore.
“The scale and intensity of rain was widespread and extensive this time as two very deep and strong systems (Western Distrubance in the hills and cyclonic circulation in the northern plains) merged together to give good showers in entire North India. The system will last for three days, rain will increase in Delhi tomorrow and the rain belt will gradually trickle down to Madhya Pradesh”, said the senior meteorologist.
