Pre-Monsoon season has been fairly good for the state of West Bengal. Both Gangetic West Bengal and Sub Himalayan West Bengal has observed good showers until now.

Many districts of West Bengal have received moderate to heavy showers during the last 24 hours. These rains occurred mostly over the northern and southern districts of the state. Moreover, violent Nor'wester also accompanied these showers. In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Malda recorded 40.4 mm of rain, Coochbehar 6 mm, Darjeeling and Jalpaiguri 4 mm and Sri Niketan 2.3 mm of rain.

As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is seen persisting over East Bihar. Due to this weather system, humid winds from the Bay of Bengal are feeding moisture over the state. In fact, at present, a big patch of thundercloud has developed over West Bengal including Kolkata. Therefore, we expect heavy thundershower with strong surface winds gusting up to 80 to 100 kmp today.

In fact, conditions are also favourable for few more spells of thundershower over northern and central districts of the state as well. More districts that would be affected are Midnapore, Malda, 24 Parganas, Hugli, Contai, and Uluberia are also expected to receive good spells of rains.

It is anticipated that these pre-Monsoon activities would continue during the next 24 to 48 hours. However, the intensity is likely to reduce gradually.
