After battling with intense summer heat for the last many days, rain gods finally showered upon the youngest state of the country, Telangana. In fact, the state was reeling under heatwave like conditions since April 9 when some light spells occurred at a few parts of the state.

However, on the past day, many districts of the state witnessed some moderate with isolated heavy to very heavy pre-Monsoon rains. In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Thursday, Hanamkonda recorded very heavy rains to the tune of 89.9 mm, Nalgonda 41 mm, Hyderabad 23 mm, Khammam 18 mm and Bhadrachalam recorded 3 mm of rains.

Though rains have been occurring over the state for the past 48 hours, the intensity of these rains was more during the last 24 hours. These heavy showers also led to a drop in the maximum temperatures by three to four degrees Celsius. Additionally, the minimums also saw a significant dip.

The reason for these rains as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to a north-south trough running from Chhattisgarh to Tamil Nadu across Telangana. Now, the trough has shifted towards Vidarbha, therefore, the rain activity over Hyderabad and parts of Telangana would reduce. However, isolated thunderstorm and thundershowers are likely to continue over the state for another 24 hours.

Thereafter, the weather would go dry. Due to a reduction in the rain activity, the temperatures of the state would once again start rising and may even cross the 40-degree mark in another 24 hours.

Skymet Weather expects another round of rain and thundershowers over the region around May 7.
