Heavy pre-Monsoon rain in Bangalore brings cheers, mercury drops significantly

May 7, 2016 11:10 AM |

Rain in BnagaloreThis summer, Bangalore has witnessed record breaking temperatures. So much so that the city has lost its “pleasant city” title. This simmering heat is alien to most of its inhabitants.

However, the month of May brought good news for Bnagaloreans after a hot and dry April. Maximums were registered way above normal levels throughout the month of April. Since the beginning of May, Bangalore has been witnessing on and off light thunderstorm activity. On Thursday, Bangalore recorded 2 mm of rain.

Thunder clouds kept building up and the intensity of rainfall increased on Friday. The maximum  temperature recorded in the afternoon was 34.6°C. Thereafter, in the late afternoon hours, the city was lashed by good pre-Monsoon showers to the tune of 44 mm. The temperatures registered a rapid drop and came down to 22°C within a span of three hours since 2:30 pm.

the Silicon City of India is finally enjoying pleasant weather conditions. This weather condition can be attributed to the wind discontinuity running across interiors of Karnataka. At present, we can see the discontinuity running from southwest Madhya Pradesh to extreme south Peninsular India  across interiors of Karnataka and interiors of Tamil Nadu.

The wind discontinuity becomes a semi-permanent feature in the pre-Monsoon season and will continue to bring some on and off rains for the next few days. For now we can expect scattered rains in Bangalore.
