The last few days of the month of June were great in terms of Monsoon rains for the city of Mumbai. In fact, during the last week the maximum City received a few very heavy spells.

However, as we came into July, after the first three days, Monsoon rains reduced to quite an extent. So much so that in the last 4 days the city has only managed to witness light rainfall activity.

The last 24 hours were no different and the city of dreams recorded light rainfall. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, the Santa Cruz observatory in Mumbai recorded 6 mm of rain meanwhile the Colaba observatory witnessed 13 mm of rain.

The reason for the reduction of rainfall activity in Mumbai and its adjoining areas can be attributed to the weakening of the off shore trough along the West Coast. Presently, the tough is quite feeble and is not capable of giving heavy rains over Mumbai and its neighbouring cities.

Thus, Mumbai will continue to witness light rainfall activity. While the possibility of isolated showers of moderate intensity cannot be ruled out, the chances of heavy rains are bleak over the city at least for the next 24 to 48 hours.
