Mumbai rains have been playing see saw for quite some time now. While heavy to very heavy rains occurred over Mumbai on August 19 and 20, these showers have once again been converted to light to moderate rains.
In fact, the last 24 hours were also not too different and the city did witness moderate spells of rain. In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, the Santa Cruz observatory recorded 15 mm of rains. However, rainfall intensity is expected to witness an increase once again.

A cyclonic circulation has formed over the Odisha region. Now, during the next 24 hours, this system is expected to move towards Vidarbha and Madhya Maharashtra region. Thus, the intensity of rains over Mumbai are likely to increase by August 25.

Not only this, the festivities of Ganesh Chaturthi starting tomorrow will also begin on a rainy note as good Monsoon rains will be observed over the city of Mumbai.
While Mumbai is expected to witness moderate to heavy showers on August 25 and 26, the intensity of rains is expected to increase even further between August 27 and 28 as the system will move towards North Konkan and Goa intensifying into a low pressure area.
Thus, the intensity of rainfall is expected to remain between heavy to very heavy over northern suburbs of Mumbai. Due to the possibility of very heavy rains over Mumbai during this time, chances of waterlogging and localized flooding cannot be ruled out. Traffic disruption is also likely over the maximum city during that time.
However, by August 29, the low pressure area is expected to move towards Gujarat. Thus, rains will witness a reduction and heavy rains will take a backseat.
