In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, Colaba observatory in Mumbai recorded hefty showers to the tune of a whopping 151 mm of rains. Meanwhile, rains were comparatively lesser over Santa Cruz, however, the observatory did record moderate rainfall of 32 mm during the same time frame.

These showers can be attributed to two features which are persisting over the region. One of them is the active off shore trough which is extending from Maharashtra coast to coastal areas of Kerala. Along with this, a cyclonic circulation is persisting in the mid levels between 2.1-3.6 km over Gujarat Coast and adjoining Konkan region.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, Mumbai rains are expected to continue for some time with varying intensity. In fact, the city is expected to witness moderate to heavy showers during the next 24 to 48 hours. Intensity may become very heavy as well over some places in between.

These intermittent showers will continue and may cause some chaos to traffic. There may be waterlogging in some parts of the city as well during this period.
