Heavy Mumbai rains reappear, more showers expected

Mumbai rains had taken a backseat and heavy showers had almost vanished from the city. So much so that dry weather conditions had taken over the city leaving Mumbaikars craving for good rains. While rains did pay a visit to the city a day before, these showers remained light only.

However, rain gods seemed to have developed a liking towards Mumbai once again. In fact, parts of the city have received heavy rains during the last 24 hours. However, these rains were not widespread in nature.

In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, the Colaba Observatory in Mumbai received a whopping 49.4 mm of rainfall. However, rains remained light over the Santa Cruz observatory and only 1.8 mm was recorded during the same time frame.

These rains can be attributed to the low pressure area which is currently over Telangana and adjoining areas. Moisture incursion has increased over the coastal city of Maharashtra resulting in scattered heavy rains.

Now, during the next 24 to 48 hours, the weather system is expected to shift towards Mumbai. Therefore, rains are expected to increase over the maximum city and widespread showers are expected.

Widespread good Monsoon rains are expected to begin tomorrow evening onward. The rain intensity is expected to be moderate to heavy around September 17 and 18. In fact, the possibility of a few very heavy spells during this period cannot be ruled out.
