Mumbaikars have been witnessing heavy rains with Monsoon showers increasing at a massive rate. The intensity of rains were so high that the Santa Cruz Observatory within a span of 9 hours, from 08:30 am until 5:30 pm today had recorded 56 mm of rains.

The Colaba Observatory too had recorded 13 mm of rains during the similar time frame. The fag end of June is churning out to be a rainy one. At present too, not much change in the weather conditions have been observed across the entertainment city and rains continue to lash the city.

Scattered rain and thundershowers are expected to continue lashing the capital city of Maharashtra. In fact, counting on these rains, it seems that Mumbai will most likely achieve the daunting monthly target of 523 mm of rains.

Updated on June 28, 09:42 AM: Heavy Mumbai rains continue to drench the city, to continue for 48 hrs

Mumbai Monsoon is in full swing, with heavy rains battering the city for several days now. Several areas and streets were reportedly flooded leading to traffic chaos. Trains were also running behind the schedule.

However, even this did not stop Mumbaikars from flocking to Marine Drive to relish the extremely pleasant weather and high tide that drenched the people.

Heavy rains saga continued on Tuesday also as Colaba Observatory recorded 63 mm of rains in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday. Similarly, Santa Cruz Observatory received 51 mm of rains.

At present also, the entertainment capital is recording rains and thundershowers of varying intensity. Somewhat similar to yesterday, intensity of rains peaked during the early morning hours.

According to Skymet Weather, showers of different intensity will continue to lash the city today also. It might be light at present, but it is likely to gather pace in sometime, resulting in some heavy showers.

These rains can be attributed to the prevailing cyclonic circulation over South Gujarat and the off-shore trough running along the West Coast from this system till Kerala.

Though the cyclonic circulation will be shifting westward gradually, but the trough will keep weather conditions conducive for moderate to heavy rains and thundershowers to continue over Mumbai and adjoining areas for another 48 hours.

Mumbai is slowly and steadily moving towards its daunting monthly target of 523 mm of rain. With what looked impossible just a couple of days back, is now looking within reach.

So far, Mumbai has recorded 414.5 mm of rain and with some good rains in offing, we expect that it will not be difficult for city to achieve its target. However, the city has still not witnessed famous 3-digit rainfall.
