Heavy Mumbai rains are back again; 109 mm rain for Thane

Mumbai rains had not been good enough during the month of August. So much so that the city had not recorded heavy showers on many occasions. Rainfall activity had remained on the lighter side.

Only thrice did the city record showers in double digit, out of which heavy showers of 54 mm were witnessed on August 14. During the same time, Mumbai’s neighbor, Thane had recorded a whopping 77 mm of rainfall.

Thereafter, both the cities did witness a reduction in rainfall and only light showers were recorded. However, it seems like rain gods wanted Mumbaikars as well as residents of Thane to enjoy a few more spells of rainfall. So much so that the city did record heavy showers in the last 24 hours.

During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, the Santa Cruz observatory in Mumbai recorded a whopping 54 mm of rainfall. On the other hand, adjoining city of Thane recorded a whopping 109 mm of rainfall during the same time frame. However, rainfall activity was not much over Colaba and only 18 mm of showers were witnessed.

These weather conditions have been attributed to the presence of a low pressure which is currently lying over the Vidarbha region. Due to this, moisture incursion has increased over Mumbai as well as Thane and the cities have recorded these heavy spells.

Now, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, Mumbai and Thane are likely to witness more moderate to heavy rains during the next 24 hours. This weather condition will be attributed to the shift of the low pressure over Mumbai. Thus, the next 36 hours will be rainy enough with some parts even witnessing very heavy showers.
