A well-marked low pressure area which was over Jharkhand and adjoining Chhattisgarh intensified into a depression. This system further resulted in moderate to heavy rain over parts of Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
Northern parts of Odisha in particular observed heavy rainfall. In a span of 24 hours, from 8:30 am on Friday, Sundargarh received a good 258 mm of rain, Jharsuguda observed 116 mm of rain, and Bhabanipatnam recorded 46 mm of rain. Additionally, areas including Sambalpur (61 mm), Phulbani (44 mm), and Titlagarh (34 mm), also witnessed good rainfall activity.
This rainy spell occurred in the region after a long wait and came in as a sigh of relief for the residents of the state. Also, this spell has brought in some relief for the farmers who had been waiting for good rains.
Both maximum and minimum temperatures have registered a significant drop. The intensity of rain is likely to reduce as the system has now moved westwards. Even after heavy rains in the region, the area poses no threat of flooding.
Light rain is expected to continue over most parts of Odisha for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the rain belt will shift towards the west. The day temperatures will also increase gradually as the rainfall decreases over the area.
