Updated on September 19, 2015 02.46 PM (IST): Maharashtra continues to get heavy Monsoon showers

Maharashtra continues to witness fairly widespread heavy Monsoon rains for the second consecutive day. According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, all the regions of the state including Vidarbha have received good rains, both in terms of intensity and spread.

However, rains will now take a back seat but parts of North Madhya Maharashtra will continue to receive Monsoon showers with reduced intensity.

As per Skymet, the depression which has been affecting the weather over the state has moved further northwards. It is presently lying over Saurashtra and adjoining region of Gujarat. With this system moving away from the state, rain belt will also shift now.

The prolong spell of Monsoon rains have substantially pulled down rainfall deficiency. Vidarbha region that has been deficit so far, is now heading towards normal rains. Situation has also improved significantly over other regions as well.

As on September 18, Vidarbha was rain deficient by just 8%. This was followed by Madhya Maharashtra at 32% and Marathwada at 36%. We expect these figures to go down further.

Let us have a look at the rainfall figures recorded across Maharashtra in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday.

Updated on September 18, 2015 12.46 PM (IST): Heavy Monsoon showers lash Maharashtra, more in offing

Heavy to very heavy Monsoon rains have lashed several parts of Maharashtra during last 24 hours. All the regions of the state including Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan have recorded rainfall of varied intensity.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the deep depression that was over Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh has been responsible for giving rain in the state.

The weather system is moving in a west-northwest direction and is presently over North Madhya Maharashtra. In view of this system, parts of Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan region including Mumbai will continue receiving moderate to heavy showers for next 24 to 48 hours.

However, intensity of rain will reduce over parts of Vidarbha and Marathwada and only light rain will be witnessed over these places.

Thereafter, the deep depression will weaken but scattered light to moderate rain will be observed for another two to three days over Coastal Maharashtra and Madhya Maharashtra.

Let us have a look at the rainfall figures recorded across the state in a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday.
