Rain in Karnataka

Moderate spells of rain and thundershower activities have occurred over Kerala, while Coastal Karnataka has received moderate to heavy showers, in the last 24 hours. In the wake of these rains, day temperatures have decreased slightly.

According to the data available with Skymet, Honavar has recorded 56 mm of rainfall, followed by Agumbe 18.2 mm, Mangaluru 6.3 mm, Kochi 17 mm, Alappuzha 16.1 mm and Kottayam 16.8 mm of rainfall.

Meanwhile, the southern parts of Kerala have observed light rainfall. The reason for these weather activities can be attributed to the offshore Trough, which is extending from the South Maharashtra coast up to the Kerala coast.

As the above Trough will persist for some more time, moderate to heavy rains may continue over Coastal Karnataka until July 16. While the intensity will be mainly light to moderate in parts of Kerala.

Further, July 17 onwards, the above system will become more active, hence rainfall activities would increase over Kerala and Coastal Karnataka.

At present, South Interior Karnataka is experiencing light to moderate rain and thundershowers. As a result of the above system, along with the Cyclonic Circulation over West Central Bay of Bengal, rainfall activities would continue over South Interior Karnataka for the next two to three days.

Places like Shirali, Udupi, Karwar, Honavar, and Mangaluru may receive heavy rainfall, while moderate rains may lash places like Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kochi, Bengaluru and Mysore. Moreover, these rains would be beneficial for all types of crops.

On the other hand, the northern parts of Karnataka will remain mostly warm and humid. However, the chances of isolated light rains cannot be ruled out here.
