It’s a cornucopia of Monsoon rains in Mumbai, Maharashtra

Monsoon reached South Konkan and Goa and adjoining South Maharashtra on June 19, with a delay of almost 10 days. Till then Monsoon remained subdued over the region. Mumbai had to wait till June 20 for Monsoon to arrive.

Rain activities were scanty over Maharashtra but on and off pre-Monsoon showers were observed over Vidarbha and adjoining areas. Good rainfall began from June 19 in Mumbai and North Coastal Maharashtra.

Ratnagiri and other parts of South Konkan & Goa have been receiving good Monsoon rains since June 10. In fact, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall activities were also recorded in few parts. During last 24 hours, heavy showers occurred over entire Konkan & Goa. Here’s a look at the significant rainfall figures in Maharashtra:

However, interiors of Maharashtra are still observing subdued Monsoon conditions. Only moderate showers are going in South Madhya Maharashtra with Mahabaleshwar recording 44 mm of rain. Nashik and Pune received just light rainfall. Kolhapur, Sangli, and Satara over South Madhya Maharashtra have also received light rains on Saturday.

Good rainfall was recorded over Parbhani (28 mm) in Marathwada. However, Aurangabad in the same region received just 3 mm of rainfall. In Vidarbha region, Yavatmal received 8 mm and Brahmapuri 7 mm.

Now, Monsoon will remain active over the coastal areas but heavy to very rainfall is expected over Marathwada and parts of Madhya Maharashtra on June 28 and 29. The low pressure area, which is at present lying over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, will move in the westward direction and reach Maharashtra gradually.

As of June 25, Madhya Maharashtra is rainfall deficient by 33%; Vidarbha has received 38% less rains than normal and Marathwada is rainfall deficient by 1%.
