It hasn’t even been a week since Uttarakhand was throttled with torrential rains. There was chaos all around as extremely heavy Monsoon showers continued to wreak havoc over the state. Several lives were lost and transportation was severely affected.
So much so that many schools were also closed and Char Dham Yatra was severely affected. However, weather conditions cleared up and rainfall intensity reduced to quite an extent. In fact, during the last three days, very light rain has been observed over the region. Many parts of the state have also remained dry during this period.
Now, conditions are expected to change again. The state of Uttarakhand may witness heavy rainfall once again. This rainy spell is expected to commence today and will continue till July 23. During this period, isolated areas may witness very heavy rainfall as well.
The axis of the Monsoon trough is running close to the foothills of the Himalayas. Due to this, the hilly state of Uttarakhand will witness increased rains during the aforementioned period. The possibility of landslide over some parts cannot be ruled out which is why residents of the state are advised to be on alert at all times.
Rainfall intensity is expected to reduce thereafter. However, scattered rainfall activity will continue over the state. In fact, a dry spell is not in sight for the state for quite some time in the coming days.
Currently, the state of Uttarakhand is witnessing a rainfall surplus of 15 percent. With the upcoming rainy spell, these figures are expected to increase even further and Uttarakhand may even fall in the excess rainfall category soon.
