Monsoon rains are all set to revive over the northwestern plains of the country. Currently, the axis of Monsoon Trough is shifting towards North, leading to increased rain activities over Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab. Also, parts of Northeast Rajasthan would witness good rains during the next two to three days.

The rain activities have already intensified over West Uttar Pradesh. The rain belt is likely to shift gradually and Delhi, Punjab, Haryana would also get to see moderate to heavy showers during the next 48 hours.

At present, Northwest India is rain deficient by 21% wherein Haryana is deficit by 31%, and Delhi 64%. Punjab is the only state which is rain surplus by two percent. These good spells are very likely to bring down the deficiency levels of Haryana and Delhi, whereas Punjab will see a further rise in rain surplus.

In wake of these Monsoon rain activities, temperatures will subside by three to four degrees across North India which will give a major relief from ongoing hot and humid weather conditions. Not to forget, these rains might be accompanied by strong winds to the tune of 50-60 kmph in association with lightning strikes in some parts because of the formation of convective clouds.

However, water-logging, traffic chaos, disruption in public transport amidst such hefty rains cannot be avoided. On the positive front, these intermittent rains will help in replenishing the groundwater levels.
