Heavy Monsoon rains to batter most areas of Bangladesh

July 25, 2017 7:05 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Moderate to heavy rains have been lashing many parts of Bangladesh since last many days. All thanks to the vigorous Monsoon conditions prevailing over the region. As much as 211 mm of rainfall has been recorded in Chittagong and Cox's Bazar in the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday. The danger of landslides in the hilly areas of Chittagong and Sylhet looms large over the region.

However, these moderate to heavy rains and thundershowers will continue for another two days.

In a span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Patuakhali recorded 160.6 mm of rainfall, Teknaf 77 mm, Rangmati 106.7 mm, Dhaka 50.3 mm, Gopalganj Sadar 49.2 mm and Feni 46 mm.

These weather activities can be attributed to a well-marked low pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining areas of Jharkhand. Moreover, axis of Monsoon trough is also running from Rajasthan across Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, from the middle area of Bangladesh up to Northeast Assam.

Due to this, heavy rains will continue to lash Bangladesh for the next two days but thereafter, the intensity of these rainfall activities will reduce significantly as this weather system will now move away from this area. Due to this movement , rainfall activities will reduce in the next two-three days.
