After a brief lull, heavy Monsoon rains are expected to make a comeback over East India. Several parts of Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha have been witnessing light to moderate rainfall for last 24 hours. West Bengal has particularly been witnessing heavy to very heavy rain.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Jalpaiguri in West Bengal has recorded a whopping 93 mm of rain. Malda has observed 55 mm of rain during the same period.
According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, the eastern end of the Monsoon trough is passing close to the foothills of the Himalayas. In addition to this, a cyclonic circulation is prevailing over North Bihar and its adjoining areas. All the systems combined together are influencing the Monsoon surge and giving rain over the region.
As per the latest forecast by Skymet, we expect the intensity of rain to pick up substantially over parts of East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha from Wednesday onwards. We expect very heavy rains to lash parts of West Bengal.
For the last two to three days, East India had not witnessed any major weather activity as Monsoon trough had shifted southwards over the plains. Besides this, no significant weather system was affecting the region.
