The month of August has been good for the capital city of West Bengal in terms of Monsoon rains. Kolkata has been receiving on and off rains and on several occasions heavy rains have also paid a visit to the city. In fact, since the beginning of the month Kolkata has been receiving good Monsoon showers.
However, the past few days have been mostly dry for the City of Joy. So much so that for the past four days only once has Kolkata recorded a mere trace of rain. Maximum temperatures also reached up to the 35 degree mark.
However, the last 24 hours have only brought good news for the city and heavy showers were observed over several parts of Kolkata. In fact, during the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, the Alipore observatory recorded a whopping 79 mm of rain.
These Monsoon rains can be attributed to the axis of the Monsoon trough which is running in close proximity of Kolkata. Also, due to the weather system in the Bay, southerly winds have been increasing the moisture incursion over the city.
However, these Monsoon showers are expected to reduce during the next 24 hours and only light to moderate showers will be recorded over the City of Joy.
