As reiterated by Skymet Weather, moderate to heavy rains have a made a comeback over Chennai on Friday. The Nungambakkam Observatory has recorded 60 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, while Minambakkam has received 27 mm of rain.
With this, the city has so far observed 211.8 mm of rain, surpassing the monthly average rainfall of 137.3 mm.
The ongoing spell of rains can be attributed the trough that is extending from the cyclonic circulation over Vidarbha region up to South Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Weathermen predict, more number of good rainy spells over North Tamil Nadu, which are likely to continue for at least next one week.
Though interiors of the state will not receive much rains but north coastal parts inclusive of Chennai and adjoining districts will continue to record on and off rain and thundershowers.
These rains have also brought some respite from the warm and humid weather conditions. Moreover, weather will be comfortable during the coming days as well.
Chennai has been witnessing surplus rainfall this season, unlike it usual traits of light spells only. The city falls under a rain shadow and thus it does not record much rains during the Southwest Monsoon.
Northern Tamil Nadu has been recording on and off good rainfall since the beginning September, particularly Chennai. Few moderate to heavy spells have also been recorded in between.
