The month of July has not been good so far Chandigarh in terms of rains. Heavy rains have completely remained absent from the city. While the city had received scattered light rain during the first four days of July, rains took a break.
However, rainfall intensity picked up once again over Chandigarh and the city had recorded 31 mm rain in a span of 48 hours around July 14 and 15. Thereafter, the city once again became almost dry and no significant weather activity was observed during that period.
However, rain gods finally decided to make an appearance over Chandigarh again and good showers made a comeback. During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday, Chandigarh recorded a whopping 53.3 mm of rainfall.
These rains can be attributed to the shift of the axis of Monsoon trough, which is currently running in close proximity of Chandigarh. Now, the city is expected to receive light rainfall during the next 24 to 48 hours.
However, good Monsoon rains will once again make a comeback over Chandigarh and the city will receive heavy rains between July 25 and 28. These rains will be attributed to the upcoming Western Disturbance which will affect weather conditions over both the hills and the plains of North India.
So far, Chandigarh has received 97.7 mm of rainfall against its monthly average rainfall of 280.4 mm. Thus, it does not seem possible for Chandigarh to be able to surpass its monthly rains.
