Updated on July 9, 6:30 PM: Heavy Monsoon rains begin over Madhya Pradesh, flood threat looms large
As predicted by Skymet Weather, Monsoon rains have finally commenced over Madhya Pradesh on Monday afternoon. In fact, Bhopal has already been witnessing some heavy rains and thundershowers for the last two to three hours.
Intense clouding could be seen over Indore and nearby areas and rains are likely to commence anytime soon.
According to Skymet Weather, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to lash several parts of the state, particularly Southwest Madhya Pradesh. Not only this, flood threat is looming large over this particular region that include cities such as Ratlam, Indore, Bhopal and Ujjain.
These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation that has moved further westwards and is presently marked over Southwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining areas. In wake of the system, thick rain bearing clouds have been hovering over the entire region.
We can expect some heavy to very heavy rain and thundershowers by tonight, which may lead to flooding as well.

Although good rain and thundershowers have been persisting over both Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh for the last few days, the rain belt remained confined to southeastern parts of Madhya Pradesh and southern districts of Chhattisgarh.

In the wake of this, the rain deficiency continues to remain high in East Madhya Pradesh by 23% and Chhattisgarh by 21%. However, West Madhya Pradesh has received excess rains by 3%.
On similar note, moderate Monsoon spells along with few heavy showers were observed over some parts of Madhya Pradesh as well as Chhattisgarh during the last 24 hours such as Jagdalpur recorded heavy rains to the tune of 78 mm, Durg 49 mm, Raipur 40 mm and Rajnandgaon 31 mm.
Rains remained light in places like Pendra that saw 11 mm, Bhopal 10 mm, Bilaspur 4 mm and Betul 2 mm during the same time frame.
Now, the weathermen at Skymet Weather are of the view that rainfall would increase significantly over numerous parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during the next two to three days. With this, the rain deficiency may improve and in fact, become surplus.
During this time period, heavy to extremely heavy showers are anticipated in places like Indore, Bhopal, Ujjain, Ratlam and Guna. This may trigger flood like situation over several parts of West Madhya Pradesh in the upcoming days. Places in Chhattisgarh that are likely to witness similar intensity of showers would be Bilaspur, Raipur, Durg and Rajnandgaon.
After the span of 48 hours, rainfall may start reducing gradually over Chhattisgarh, nevertheless many parts of Madhya Pradesh would still record light to moderate showers. Hence, July is going to a much better month in terms of rainfall for both the cited states.
