After experiencing heavy downpour with isolated districts of West Bengal even recording a three-digit rainfall figure, rains took a declining trend in West Bengal. Though after the mid-June month, there were seldom any days wherein rains were not recorded in most parts of the state.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Jalpaiguri recorded 40.6 mm of rains, Diamond Harbor 35.2 mm, Bagati 29 mm, Kolkata 16 mm, Kolkata 15 mm and Krishnanagar witnessed 12 mm of rains.

Skymet Weather states that the reason for these rains can be associated with the axis of Monsoon trough which is running via North Uttar Pradesh, North Bihar, and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, turning towards Gangetic West Bengal.

On account of this weather system, Monsoon rains are expected to lash heavily over the regions in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal. While they may fall in light to moderate intensity over the parts of Gangetic West Bengal including Kolkata for the next 2-3 days.
As on July 2, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal is rainfall deficient by 19%, while Gangetic West Bengal is also rain deficit by 17%. However, with the possibility of continuous rains over these regions, the rainfall deficiency is expected to curtail down marginally.
