Southwest Monsoon has been showing its vigorous face over the state of Gujarat from last many days. In fact, the situation worsens to the extent that it even led to flooding in many parts of the state. Particularly, districts such as Amreli, Kandla, and Valsad were the worst flood hit.

Heavy rains have continued to batter Gujarat in the last 24 hours as well. In a span of last 24 hours, from 08:30 am as on Friday, districts such as Amreli, Vadodara and Veraval had recorded three-digit rains to the tune of 177 mm, 141.8 mm and 121.2 mm respectively. As these rains are expected to continue, they have once again raised alarm against flood threat.

The other districts of the state that had recorded good rains during the similar time span include Rajkot that recorded 67 mm, Surat 29.2 mm, and Ahmedabad witnessed 18.6 mm of rains.

The reason for these rains as per Skymet Weather can be attributed to the low-pressure area which was over South Gujarat. Due to this weather system, rains have occurred over the southern districts of Gujarat. However, now this low-pressure area has moved slightly towards the north and is currently seen in the Kutch and adjoining regions.

Moreover, an associated upper air cyclonic circulation also persists over the region. In addition, the axis of Monsoon trough also passes through the Centre of the low-pressure area over Gujarat and the neighborhood. Skymet Weather reiterates that the system mentioned above is likely to weaken and merge with the axis of Monsoon trough after 24 hours.

Hence, Monsoon rains are likely to remain vigorous over the western and southern parts of the state. Districts such as Veraval, Porbandar, Rajkot, Amreli, and Valsad can brace for some heavy rains for the next 24 hours, reducing thereafter. On the contrary, as the Monsoon trough is expected to shift towards the north, gradually, the northern districts of the state such as Idar, Deesa will get to witness some heavy showers. While moderate rains are expected to occur over the remaining parts of the state.

Such heavy rains can even trigger the flood-like situation once again. Roads and Railways may get submerged under incessant rains causing major travel disruption.
