Delhi rains have been wreaking havoc over the residents reminding them of the month old incident when Monsoon showers had bought the city to a standstill. So much so that massive traffic jams and waterlogging had become a common sight.
Delhi had been receiving good rains for the past three days. The intensity of these Monsoon showers increased drastically yesterday and during the morning hours, heavy Monsoon rains battered the national capital.
Several people were stuck in traffic jams and the movement of vehicles had become very slow. Water levels were seen rising on the roads of Gurugram and several areas were severely affected in the region.
Due to heavy rains, US Secretary of state, John Kerry’s visit to religious sites in the national capital was also cancelled. At around 11:30 am, the visibility at the Airport also went down to 500 metres due to heavy showers.
Several flights were delayed to and from Delhi due to massive rains in the city. To top it all, many people couldn’t board their flights because of being stuck in traffic jams. As per reports, there was a two hour 5 km jam on NH 8 Delhi-Gurugram Expressway.
In Hiranke Village situated in Northwest Delhi, five people suffered minor injury burns after being struck by lightning strikes.
While the city is expected to receive a few good spells of rain today, rainfall intensity is expected to reduce by tomorrow and clear weather conditions are expected to take over.
