Heavy Monsoon rain pounds Surat, likely to continue

July 27, 2016 10:34 AM | Skymet Weather Team

As reiterated by Skymet Weather, good Monsoon rains have finally arrived over Gujarat, particularly over Surat. The city has recorded whopping 96 mm of rain in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday.

Moreover, weather conditions remain favourable for good rains to continue in the city during the next 24 hours.

According to the weathermen, the ongoing spell of rains can be attributed to the several weather systems. The cyclonic circulation is prevailing over West Madhya Pradesh, South Gujarat and adjoining Rajasthan. Meanwhile, Western Disturbance is also moving across Jammu and Kashmir.

The interaction between these two systems has given good rainfall over parts of Gujarat including Surat.

Further, both the systems are likely to persist over the region, which will continue to give good rain over Surat and other parts of Gujarat along with adjoining areas of Rajasthan.

So far, the coastal city of Surat has recorded 397 mm of rain against the monthly average rainfall of 466.3 mm.
With more good showers in offing, we expect that the city will be able to achieve its monthly target.

Gujarat has been the most rainfall deficit pocket of the country so far in the Monsoon season. As on July 26, Saurashtra and Kutch region is rain deficit by 57%, while Gujarat region is deficit by 42%.
