Heavy Monsoon rain in Surat, Valsad; Light rain in Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Gandhinagar

This year, Southwest Monsoon made a late onset over the state of Gujarat. In fact, in the month of June Monsoon remained very weak, making Gujarat one of the highest rain deficit state.

However, Monsoon revived soon, and the month of July began on a rainy note. Until now, the state has been receiving varied intensity of rains. South Gujarat and adjoining Saurashtra region have recorded more rains as compared to the other regions during the past few days. Meanwhile, rains did appear over the central regions of the state such as Ahmedabad and Vadodara but they were beyond satisfactory.

Last 24 hours, were no different wherein South Gujarat saw another spell of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, while central parts witnessed light to moderate rainfall only.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, Vadodara recorded 108 mm of rain, Surat 96 mm, Bhavnagar 20.6 mm, Ahmedabad 13.9 mm, Porbandar 11.6 mm, Veraval 3.7 mm and Rajkot 0.9 mm of rains.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is persisting over South Gujarat. In wake of this weather system, good rains would continue to lash districts of South Gujarat and adjoining Saurashtra region. Places such as Mahuva, Bhavnagar, Valsad, and Surat would continue to witness hefty Monsoon rains.

Light to moderate rains would also appear over the central stations such as Ahmedabad, Rajkot, and Gandhinagar. Meanwhile, Interior Saurashtra, North Gujarat, and Kutch region would be almost dry but isolated light showers cannot be ruled out.

In wake of this, rain deficiency in Gujarat region has shown a major improvement that as on July 11 stands at 21 percent. Meanwhile, with 72 percent deficiency, Saurashtra and Kutch continued to one the most rain deficit pocket of the country.
