Like every year, this year also, many districts of Madhya Pradesh are witnessing flood like situation. As per Skymet Weather, since the last 6 to 7 years, it has been observed that the path of weather systems which originate in the central parts of Bay of Bengal has become westerly.

These westerly moving weather systems cross Odisha and Chhattisgarh and reach Madhya Pradesh giving heavy rainfall activity. In fact, at times, the weather systems which form in the Northeast Arabian Sea also move in a northeasterly direction towards West Madhya Pradesh giving heavy rains.

This year, there have been successive weather systems moving across South and East Madhya Pradesh forming in the Bay of Bengal. In fact, the cyclonic circulation which is over Gujarat has also enhanced the rainfall activity over the western parts of the state. Due to these weather system heavy to very heavy occurred over many parts of Madhya Pradesh in this month leading to flooding.

In the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Monday, Sagar recorded 37.4 mm of rains, Khandwa 29 mm, Pachmarhi 28 mm, Umaria 26.8 mm, Seoni 18.6 mm, Betul 18.4 mm, Mandla 11 mm, Indore 8.6 mm, Ujjain 8 mm, Jabalpur 8.2 mm and Bhopal 7.2 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, the well-marked low-pressure area prevailing over the interior parts of Odisha will also move towards Madhya Pradesh. Therefore, we expect heavy to very heavy rains over many districts of Madhya Pradesh during the next 48 hours. Places such as Narsinghpur, Hoshangabad, Raisen, Jabalpur, Umaria, Damoh, Bhopal, Dewas and Vidisha will record hefty Monsoon rains.

In fact, another low-pressure area is forming in the Bay of Bengal which will also subsequently move west and will give moderate to heavy showers with one or two extremely heavy spells over Madhya Pradesh around July 23 and 24. Thus, successive weather systems will lash Madhya Pradesh throughout July. In wake of this, no relief is likely from heavy rains and flooding.
