July 5, 2016 4:54 PM |

Rain in BiharSouthwest Monsoon made an onset over Bihar and Jharkhand after June 15. However, the region did not receive very heavy rains in June. So much so that the region remained heavily rain deficient. On July 3, while Jharkhand witnssed a 40 percent rain deficiency, Bihar observed rain deficiency of 30 percent.

However, rains picked up pace during the last 48 hours. Good rainfall activity was recorded on both July 3 as well as July 4. These rains can be attributed to the well-marked low-pressure area which is currently over Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar region.

The state of Jharkhand recorded 52.6 mm of rain against 9.9 mm on July 3 which is 431 percent more than the normal. Also, Bihar recorded 22.2 mm of rain against 8.9 mm which is 149 percent more for the same day.

Due to excess rains, rainfall deficiency dropped to 21 percent in Jharkhand and 25 percent in Bihar on July 4. During the last 24 hours, many areas of both the states recorded good rains including Daltonganj 71.1 mm, Bhagalpur 64 mm, Gaya 44.4 mm, Giridih 40 mm, Patna 42.3 mm, and Bokaro 26.6 mm.
