Heavy rainfall aggravates flood situation in Rajasthan and MP, no relief for next 24 hours

Multiple weather systems have been giving good amounts of rain in various parts of the country. For some parts of the country, these rains are unprecedented in nature and have led to flood-like situation. Currently, flood situation persists over parts of West Madhya Pradesh, South and West Rajasthan, and West Bengal.

Flood situation in Rajasthan worsens, hundreds of villagers evacuated

Torrential rain in southern parts of Rajasthan as well as West Rajasthan has inundated villages and disconnected highways. Four deaths have been reported so far, two in Jaisalmer and two in Alwar. Teams of National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) have also reached affected areas in Rajasthan.

A well-marked low pressure area is currently present over West Rajasthan and has given widespread heavy to very heavy rain over southern and southeastern parts of the state. The system is expected to intensify into a depression which will further enhance rainfall activity over the region. This will also affect the Kutch region of Gujarat.

As per Skymet, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over these areas for another 48 hours. Thereafter, moderate to heavy rain will continue for another two days. Several areas in South Rajasthan are flood-prone while other areas are already facing flood-like conditions. These areas generally receive lesser rains and hence the drainage system in these parts of the state is not up to the mark. Thus a prolonged spell of heavy rainfall translates into flood-like situation in the region.

During last 24 hours, Barmer has received 64 mm rainfall, Jalore 79 mm, Jaisalmer 26 mm, Pali 121 mm, Chittorgarh 67 mm, and Kota 69 mm. These figures clearly indicate that the situation in the region is grim and no significant relief is likely in the next 48 hours.

Flood situation persists in West Madhya Pradesh, more rain in the offing

Heavy rain in West Madhya Pradesh has led to flood-like conditions in several districts. Cities like Ujjain, Indore, and Bhopal have recorded heavy rainfall and several parts of these cities are currently submerged.

The well-marked low over West Rajasthan and adjoining Madhya Pradesh region has been giving incessant heavy rainfall in parts of West MP. As of now, good weather activity is expected to continue over the region for another 24 to 36 hours. Thereafter, when the system shifts towards Pakistan, intensity of rain in West MP is expected to become feeble.
