Heavy Kerala rains to continue for 24 hours, intensity to reduce thereafter

Kerala has been recording moderate to heavy rains for the last couple of days. In fact, it is the only state in the country which is rain surplus. According to Skymet Weather, this is not all as we can expect some more heavy showers in the store for the state at least till Thursday.

On Tuesday, Kerala recorded fairly widespread moderate to heavy rains over most parts of the state. In span of 24 hours  from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Kochi recorded 64 mm of rain, followed by Karipur 51 mm, Cannur 51 mm, Kozhikode 46 mm and Alappuzha 34 mm.

These rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation persisting over Kerala and adjoining Interior Tamil Nadu and a trough is running from this system up to Lakshadweep Islands. With the system persisting, we expect moderate rain with one or two heavy spells to continue over Kerala for the next 24 hours.

Thereafter, we expect marginal decrease in rainfall, but the weather would not go completely dry. Scattered rains would still continue over the state but with reducing intensity.

As per weathermen, we would soon see a semi-permanent feature i.e. a north-south trough from North Interior Karnataka to Interior Tamil Nadu which would keep on oscillating to east or west. As the trough shifts westwards, it would keep giving rains over Kerala and shift accordingly.

This feature is usually seen during the Northeast Monsoon season that span is from October to December. Weather conditions are slowly and steadily becoming conducive for Northeast Monsoon to make an onset soon.
