Uttarakhand has been observing scattered light to moderate rains since last two days. Moreover, heavy to very heavy rains are also likely over many districts of the state in next 24 to 48 hours. As on July 25, Uttarakhand is rain surplus by 17 percent.

The table below displays rainfall recorded during last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Monday:

Western end of axis of Monsoon trough which is currently running from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh is expected to shift towards north.

With the interaction of Western Disturbance which is at present over Jammu & Kashmir, rain intensity is also likely to increase over the hilly regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Though the state had observed incidents of cloudbursts, flash floods and landslides earlier, weather became comfortable with scattered light to moderate rains. However, history might repeat itself and the state may observe heavy rains once again that would aggravate the situation over the particular area. Rivers might also start overflowing and could possibly bring flash floods.

One or two incidents of cloudbursts over the area cannot be ruled out as well. The development of cumulonimbus clouds are also very common during this type of weather events.
