Delhi rains have had a bang on appearance since last night with heavy showers lashing many parts of the national capital. So much so that the Palam observatory has witnessed a whopping 48 mm of rains, while the base Observatory saw 40.6 mm of rains during the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday. Lodhi Road saw 42 mm rains.
These rains were mostly seen during the night and the early morning hours. As reiterated, the monthly normal for Delhi in January has been crossed in this spell itself with the normal at 19 mm. The total for this month so far is at 49.7 mm.
Moreover, for Palam observatory, this is record 24-hour rain in the month of January. Earlier record was of 45.5 mm rain on January 26 in 1962. Safdarjung also recorded 40.6 mm, this is highest 24-hour rainfall during decade since 2009. Before this, the city had seen 30.3 on January 26, 2017. The heaviest rain record stands at 116.8 mm on January 28 in 1885.
Some more showers are expected today as well with one odd heavy showers expected in isolated pockets. Tomorrow, rains will reduce being light in nature with rains only being a hit and miss event from January 10. This is because the system is moving away from the region.
