Northeast India is all set to experience the heaviest spell of rain and thundershower activities tomorrow onward.

According to Skymet Weather, rains will commence in the region by the evening or night of March 30, gradually picking pace on March 31. The intensity will initially vary between light to moderate. However, as the time progresses, heavy showers will be observed in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. Moreover, Arunachal Pradesh may see some snowfall activity at its upper reaches.

April 3 onward, the intensity of rains will start declining, but scattered light rains may continue over Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura until April 4 or 5.

The major reason for these rains can be attributed to the remnants of Western Disturbance which will reach Northeast India by tomorrow. Moreover, a Cyclonic Circulation will form over Assam and its adjoining areas. In addition, an anti Cyclone over North Bay of Bengal will induce moisture incursion over Northeast India.

Northeast India has remained highly rain deficient so far. Almost all the states are experiencing deficiency between 30% and 45%, according to the data available with Skymet between March 1 and 28. However, the upcoming heavy spell of rain will be very helpful in pulling down the deficiency to some extent in the region.

The average rainfall for the northeastern states is high during the month of March. And when we enter the month of April, the pre- monsoon activities majorly increase and the average doubles.
