By reaching 48°C, temperature in Ahmedabad had broken the 100-year-old record on May 19, leaving the residents survive under the unbearably hot weather. Prickly heat since then had taken a break. However, after a stop gap, soaring temperatures and heatwave like conditions are likely to take a U-turn in parts of Gujarat, especially Ahmedabad.

Ahmedabad was the second hottest city in Gujarat with a maximum temperature of 44.5°C recorded on June 6 only after Idar that witnessed maximum temperature of 44.6°C. Hot weather along with forecast of rising temperature yesterday forced civic authorities in Ahmedabad to issue a red alert.

Measures to keep heat-related illnesses at bay

Heatwave like condition is expected to prevail in the state for next couple of days as dry weather is persisting in most cities.

Some of the other stations that witnessed high day temperature includes Gandhinagar (44.4°C), Surendranagar (44.3°C), Deesa (44.0°C), Valabh Vidya Nagar (43.1°C) and Vadodara (42.6°C). However, the weatherman expects the temperature to come down gradually in coming days.

Death toll in the city has also risen to 18 after another person lost his life due to heat stroke in Ahmedabad yesterday.

However, Skymet Weather predicts that relief from severe heat and dry weather in Gujarat is likely by the weekend.
