When most parts of the country are relishing pre-Monsoon showers, there are a few states that are still reeling under heatwave conditions. Few states in the Central and East India region are still enveloped under intense hot weather conditions. However, even Nagpur in Maharashtra is also witnessing heatwave conditions.

States like Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and parts of Andhra Pradesh are witnessing temperatures soaring and touching the sky. This has made the weather conditions across the aforesaid region uncomfortable and sultry. In fact, on Wednesday, Titlagarh in Odisha topped the list of top ten hottest cities in India with the maximum of 46.5°C followed by Bhawanipatna with 46.2°C of the same state.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for the rising mercury levels can be attributed to the dry and hot westerly and northwesterly winds that are prevailing over most parts of interior Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and northeast Madhya Pradesh.

In the wake of this, the maximums are scaling high and settling approximately 4-5°C above the normal in parts of Odisha, and East Madhya Pradesh. While the daytime high remained above normal by 3-4°C in coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Skymet Weather further reiterates that a cyclonic circulation is seen over Jharkhand and Odisha and hence, scattered light to moderate rains are likely to pour over Odisha and adjoining north coastal Andhra Pradesh in next 24-48 hours. These scattered showers will thereby lead to a drop in the rising mercury levels over these regions.

However, parts of Madhya Pradesh and North Chhattisgarh will have to continue reeling under heatwave conditions for at least another 24 hours.
