The summer is at its peak and the summer heat is making the life miserable in most parts of India. But, especially the parts of Northwest India, like Punjab and Haryana including Delhi and NCR are reeling under intense heatwave.

Temperatures over both the states are more than 6-8 degrees above normal. In the span of 24 hours from 08:30am on Friday, temperatures recorded over both the states are mentioned below.

This intense spell of heatwave can be attributed to the westerly winds from central Pakistan. These winds, after travelling from hot and dry deserts of Pakistan and Rajasthan are entering the northwestern plains. Hence, the spiked up levels of mercury over the region can be seen.

Such high temperatures are very unlikely for the region, but the absence of any weather system has made the daily life miserable.

Both the observatories in Delhi saw the mercury touch 40 degrees. This intense hot weather is likely to stay for next 24-48 hours. One more factor that is helping the heatwave is the absence of any major weather system over the hills of North India. Hilly reaches of North India is witnessing pleasant weather conditions.

People are advised to stay indoors or stay hydrated when they venture out in the day time.
