The northern hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are experiencing above normal mercury levels for the past many days now. In fact, many hill stations in these regions are also observing heatwave conditions. For heatwave to be declared in the hills, maximum temperatures should be settling above 30°C and 5 degrees notches above the normal levels.

As per Skymet Weather, heatwave conditions in pockets along with above normal temperatures over most parts are expected to prevail over parts of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
Temperatures are settling above normal by 5°C to 9°C in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, in the state of Himachal Pradesh, temperatures are settling above normal by 4°C to 6°C.
Similarly, Uttarakhand is also experiencing above normal temperatures by 4°C to 6°C but heatwave conditions are not prevalent in this state.
The reason for these high temperatures can be attributed to the continuous dry spell and clear sky conditions.
However, successive Western Disturbances have been approaching the state of Jammu and Kashmir. However, they have been moving in the upper latitudes. Therefore, no weather activity has occurred over these states. In fact, these Western Disturbances are preceded by warm fronts which tend to increase both the minimum and maximum temperatures.
As per weathermen, we do not expect any active Western Distance to approach the Western Himalayas for at least four to five days. Therefore, there are very bleak chances of relief from the ongoing warm weather and above normal temperatures.
