Maximum temperatures across Maharashtra have been settling way above 40-degree mark for almost a month now. In fact, heatwave has further tightened its grip over the region during the last two days.
According to Skymet Weather, we do not expect any relief in the near future across Marathwada, Madhya Maharashtra and Vidarbha regions. The day temperatures will continue to settle above 43°C and also touch 46°C mark at some places.
Central Maharashtra and Vidarbha have already been on the heatwave alert as mercury is likely to soar further.
In fact, the heat will also be felt across the coastal region of Konkan, wherein also the mercury will settle in high 30s. Mumbai has been battling hot and humid days with the above normal temperatures.
March ended with exceptionally hot weather conditions, which carried onto April also. Though India battles heat waves happen every year but the early arrival and persistence of the heat is matter of worry.
Further, weathermen do not predict any drop in the mercury anytime soon. Blame it on the almost nil amount of pre-Monsoon rains, which has paved way for hot inland winds over Maharashtra. This is primarily due to the absence of any significant weather system around or over the region.
According to Skymet Weather, the state could witness drop in mercury by a degree or two but no lasting relief is in sight until the arrival of the Southwest Monsoon. This means the region will be at threat of dangerous heat for another two months, leading to worrisome situation.
Both the residents and animals continue to be at risk for dehydration, heat exhaustion or heatstroke.
Following are the maximum temperatures recorded across the state on Monday, which would give insight of the ongoing situation in Maharashtra.
