There seems to be no respite from the ongoing summer heat in Maharashtra as Vidarbha. In fact, isolated parts of Marathwada continue to battle with heatwave conditions. Most districts have been constantly witnessing the temperatures clocking above 45 degrees Celsius.

On Monday, Chandrapur recorded the maximum temperatures at 46.8ºC, making it the hottest pocket of the country. Apart from this, Bramhapuri recorded 46ºC, Nagpur 45.6ºC, Parbhani 45.4ºC, Amravati 44.2ºC, and Akola registered the daytime high at 44ºC.

However, the other divisions of Maharashtra like Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan are witnessing the mercury levels close to the normal levels ranging between mid and upper 30’s.

Thus, during the similar time frame, Mumbai recorded the maximum temperature at 34ºC, Ratnagiri 33.2ºC, Alibag 34.6ºC, Kolhapur 36.2ºC, Pune 38.1ºC and Satara at 39.1ºC.

The reason for these intense summer heat conditions over some parts of Maharashtra can be attributed to the hot westerly winds that are blowing over these regions from Sindh, Balochistan and Central Pakistan region wherein the temperatures are already running sky high, even beyond the 50-degree mark.

In addition to this, clear and sunny sky conditions for the last many days are also adding to this intense summer heat.

Moreover, as of now also, Skymet Weather does not foresee any weather system over the region. Hence, the weather of Maharashtra would continue to remain hot and dry. Heatwave conditions would prevail in parts of Vidarbha for the next two to three days. Moreover, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada would also continue to reel under heatwave like conditions.

At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:

In view of heatwave conditions in most parts of Maharashtra, farmers are advised to maintain adequate soil moisture in summer field crops like Paddy, Maize, Groundnut, vegetables and fruits crops as per requirement.

The early sown summer Groundnut, Maize, Jowar and Paddy crops are at the maturity stage, hence the farmers can start harvesting summer crops during morning and evening hours. Farmers should also continue harvesting Mango, Orange, and Pomegranate and to irrigate fruit and vegetable crops during morning and evening hours.
