Severe heatwave in Odisha has become much worse than previously expected. While Northeast India has been witnessing Pre-Monsoon showers on a continuous basis, East India, on the other hand, has been observing severe heatwave conditions.
Bankura in West Bengal has already surpassed the all-time high record a few days ago. Now, the mercury is only rising. Presently, the city has recorded its maximum at 46.7 degree Celsius. Other areas in the state are also reeling under intense heatwave conditions.
The state of Odisha is reeling under such extreme heatwave conditions that so far about 73 people have been killed. Most of the cities have been recording temperatures close to the 45-degree mark. For instance, Angul stands at 45.1°C, Bhabanipatna 45°C, Balasore 44.2°C, Bhubaneswar 41.5°C, Chandbali 42.5°C, and Sambalpur 45°C.
However, the one city that seems to stand out and is currently as hot as fire is Titlagarh. While the city may not have surpassed its record yet, it is just a notch away from it. At present, Titlagarh in Odisha is burning at a whopping 48 degree Celsius, which happens to be five degrees above the average temperatures.
The all-time high in the city stands at 48.1 degree Celsius, which was recorded on April 30, 1999. With the current scenario, this recorded will soon be broken. The worst part is that no weather system is currently affecting Odisha.
Thus, the coastal state will continue to witness scorching weather conditions as not even a drop of rain is expected to come to its rescue. April will continue to be as hot. In fact, in the coming days, the cities of Odisha may get even hotter making things even worse.
